Many modern devices draw power when not in use with stand by mode. This function allows for faster startup of televisions and audio devices, for background updating on gaming consoles and computers, and wifi remote controlled items. Completely power down devices if possible, unplug reachable devices like chargers and small appliances. Unplugging unnecessary devices can make a big difference in cost savings.

Don’t Touch The Thermostat!

Most of us undoubtedly experienced childhood with a parent who had an obsession with the thermostats settings. This is just another example of their wisdom. Small changes to the temperature settings can have a big impact on your bill. While changes in weather will require changes to your thermostat, it is important to keep a consistent setting for when you’re home. You can also save by changing you’re settings at night or when you’re regularly at work, even the difference of 2 degrees can save a lot of energy.

Appliances

These days modern appliances come with an energy star rating. However, older ones are inefficient and can cost much more to operate. If you can’t replace your old washer and dryer consider washing clothes in full loads. Unplug small appliances when not in use.

Lighting

Modern LED light bulbs use up to 80% less energy than incandescent bulbs and have a much longer lifespan. Smart LED lights can also change color and can be controlled over wifi. Consider swapping out your old bulbs for new ones.
